It will cover people and institutions in power, give voice to the oppressed, and help you understand the world—so we can work toward making it better for everyone.

The Fifth is here to advance a transformative era of journalism that goes beyond spin, sensationalism, punditry – and frankly, a lot of bullshit – to focus on what matters to you while also making it simple for you to stay informed.

ABOUT ME

I’m Huma Razvi, an Emmy award-winning journalist with over a dozen years of experience at NBC and CBS News. I helped launch NBC’s first political newsletter more than 20 years ago and covered the 2004, 2008, and 2012 presidential elections, along with many of the biggest political stories in between.

Throughout my career, I’ve witnessed legacy news outlets struggle to keep up with a rapidly changing landscape. The rise of social media, rampant misinformation, and a new generation of savvy, informed citizens demand a different kind of journalism that transcends algorithms, echo chambers, and the cult of personality and confronts their resistance to calling a thing what it is.

After a career pause, I realized returning to established news organizations wouldn’t align with my life's mission: to understand the world and improve it for my kids—and yours.

I hope you'll join The Fifth.
